Effect of Stocking Density on the Growth of Tiger Grouper, Epinephelus fuscoguttatus, Cultured in Flowthrough Tank.

ABSTRACT

A feeding experiment using a flow-through system was conducted to evaluate the effect of stocking density on growth. Three stocking densities (80, 120, and 160 fish/m3) were conducted with tiger grouper juvenile of an average 28.6 ± 4.49 g initial weight. No significant different in the growth between treatments was observed for the first two months. However, weight gain from day 60 to 120 showed, fish in group 120 fish/m3 grew equally fast with body weight gain of 118.3 g/fish followed by group with 80 fish/m3 (74.3g/fish) and 160 fish/m3 (83.1g/fish) respectively. Nevertheless, body weight gains were decrease for both group 120 fish/m3 and 160 fish/m3 from day 120 to 180 day to 103 g/fish and 50.8 g/fish respectively. Survival not significantly influenced by the stocking density. However food conversion rate are low and specific growth rate (SGR) of 120 fish/m3 at 120 days were significantly different than other density. The results suggest that the optimum stocking densities are at 120 fish/m3 with flow-through system.

ABSTRAK

Suatu kajian makanan telah dijalankan dengan menggunakan sistem aliran terus bagi menilai kesan kepadatan terhadap tumbesaran. Tiga kadar kepadatan (80, 120, dan 160 ikan/ m3) telah di uji terhadap ikan kerapu harimau yang bersaiz awal purata 28.6 ± 4.49 g. Kadar tumbesaran di antara kumpulan adalah tidak berbeza secara ketara bagi dua bulan yang pertama. Bagaimana pun, berat badan diperolehi dari hari 60 ke 120 hari bagi kumpulan 120 ikan/ m3 telah meningkat dengan cepat iaitu 118.3 g/ikan, diikuti masing-masing kumpulan 80 ikan/ m3 (74.3 g/ikan) dan 160 ikan/ m3. Sungguh pun begitu, berat badan diperolehi turun bagi kumpulan 120 ikan/m3 dan 160 ikan/m3 dari hari 120 ke hari 180 dengan masing-masing hanya mencatatkan 103 g/ikan and 50.8 g/ikan. Kadar hidup tidak dipengaruhi oleh kadar kepadatan. Bagaimanapun kadar penukaran makanan yang rendah dan kadar tumbesaran spesifik bagi kepadatan 120 ikan/m3 mencatatkan perbezaan secara ketara pada 120 hari tempoh ternakan berbanding dengan kadar kepadatan yang lain. Keputusan ujikaji ini mencadangkan kadar 120 ikan/m3 adalah yang optima digunakan dalam sistem ternakan secara aliran terus.
